DIY 6 year Anniversary gift

On the 31st of  October 2015 Jill and I celebrated our 6th wedding anniversary, Wow!!! time really flies when you are spending time with your soulmate. I pray that God will bless us with 66 more years to come. 

And there I was thinking about what to get my gorgeous wife for our anniversary. I went to my friend Google to hear what his suggestions would be for a 6th anniversary and he told me that a traditional gift would be candy or iron and modern would be wood. Knowing how much Jill loves little gifts and things that are handmade and appreciate it when I take the time out of my busy schedule to make her something small. It's worth much more than any expensive gift. I decided to make her a small wooden box with a chocolate for each year. 

Bought some chocolates..(check), get some wood..(check) and some nails for iron..(check) to assemble the wooden box. Both traditional and modern gifts in one (this is a Just Granty gift). This DIY project didnt come without challanges. It gets really hard to make surprise gifts for your wife ones you married because you stay in the same house. When you are dating it easy because you stay in seperated houses, but once you married its more difficult. 

While Algrano and I were busy making the wooden box, Jill came home from work and ask "What are you busy with"? I had no no option but to lie and told her I am helping our son with a school project, because I wanted it to be a surprie for my Queen.

So this is how the DIY anniversary gift took shape. 

Cut the wood to size

Assemble the inner box and the lid

Wooden box complete

Print a picture for the lid of the box

Add the chocolates to the box

Cover the chocolate with confetti and a love message from my heart

VWSA Employee Product Experience

The past two weeks was like awesome for me.  From the 12^th till the 23^rd of October I had the opportunity to test drive some amazing Volkswagen and Audi vehicles all made possible by Volkswagen Group of South Africa (VWSA).

The Employee Product Experience gave all of us permanent employees with a valid driver’s license the change to test drive cars ranging from the UP to the Audi A7. We as employees were the first ones to see the new Passat, Caddy and the T6 Kombi before it was launched into the market.

VWSA’s values are Excellence, Respect and One Team.  This experience really showed that Volkswagen is a company of Excellence, we as employees are Respected and that we are part of One Team.

This reminded me of a quote by Richard Branson “Clients do not come first. Employees come first. If you take care of your employees, they will take care of the clients”

Everyone who knows me will know how much I’m interested in cars.  The cars I drove I will only be able to afford one day when I’m big and the babies are all done with varsity and that will only be in 2033.  So I made great use of the opportunity and here are some pictures of the cars I test drove.

Work Stay Away = DIY Table!

Today Wednesday 14th October 2015 we had a stay away at work - Yeah!!! what a lovely opportunity to sleep in... No, not for Granty because that meant another day all to myself to get my creative juices flowing. 

After dropping the babies off at school I decided to make a table...  Yes, you heard right I just decided to make a table.  So lets see what I came up with.

I collected all the wood I could find in my backyard

Made the legs for the table

On goes the tabletop

Add a splash of varnish

WOW !!! I'm so proud of the final product

The measurements of the table are 75(L) x 75(W) x 76(H) and is available for sale at the ridiculously low price of  R350.00

Just Granty back from a long break!

Dear Readers, 

I apologise for not blogging for such along time, things have been hectic on my side, (hectic in a good way).  I have been focusing on my studies, done some DIY home projects, travelling and getting my first tattoo, but rest assured I am back with many experiences to share with you.

So go on and subscribe to my blog and be the first to read about all that I've been up to. I will also be having some pallet wood products for sale in the near future. Just watch the space!!! The handyman in me has been released :-)

On the 28th of July 2015 my wife, Jill and I decided to get our kids names tattooed on our arms. To
tell the truth I was nervous and excited the same time, even had butterflies in my tummy. On the other hand Jill was so brave to get hers done first so I couldn't chicken out. I mean now a promise is a promise...

Dear Daddy in Heaven

Dear Dad 

Today (08.05.2015) is exactly a year ago since you suddenly left us and God called you Home. Our lives were turned upside down and it will never be the same. We all miss you so much. I know that Mummy misses you the most of all. We are trying so hard to make he happy, but that is something you always did. I will always cherish the moments when I saw the two of you just grabbing each other and dance for no reason what so ever even without music. She was soulmate till death seperated you. 

You were the best Father anyone could ever want and I feel so very lucky, proud and honoured to be your Son. God has truely blessed me in allowing you to be a very important part of my life. Daddy thanks for being in my life and for everything you've ever done for me and all of us. I've always appreciated you, loved you and greatly admired you. I only wish that He would have let you stay longer. I guess God has special plans for you in Heaven and when He calls you, you have to answer. 

I will always remember the wonderful stories you told us about your childhood and growing up. Thanks for always being my "Gaurdian Angel" while here on earth and now my "Papa Angel" in Heaven. We  hold you close in our hearts and there you will remain. We love you still and always will.

Stay Positive

Today will never come again. Be a blessing to someone in need. Be a friend to someone who is lonely. Encourage someone who are feeling down. Take time to care. Let your words heal and not wound.

Everyday you hear people saying what they want, "I WANT- I WANT- I WANT". Well, this is what I want;

• I want people who are sick to be healed.
• I want children with no families to be adopted.
• I want people to never have to worry about food and shelter and heat.
• Most of all, I would like to see our people start to care for one another.

The things you are waiting and hoping for, tend to arrive at the most unexpected moments. Never quit. If you stumble, get back up. What happened yesterday no longer matters. Today is another day to get back on track and move closer to your dreams and goals. You can do it!

An arrow can only be shot by pulling it backwards. When life is dragging you back with difficulties, just imagine that it's going to launch you into something great.

LESSON OF TIME - KARMA

Time and Circumstances can change at any time. Don't devalue or hurt anyone in life. You may be powerful today. But remember. Time is more powerful than you! One tree makes million match sticks... Only one match stick is needed to burn a million trees...

Featuring Drew's Barbershop

Andrew Claasen aka Drew of Drew's Barbershop

Today I am featuring the most talented barber in Uitenhage or most definitely in the eastern cape if not in the whole of South Africa. His name is Andrew Claasen but better known to eveyone as "Drew". His light years ahead of barbers with twice the years experience in the industry ( Im not just saying this to get a free haircut for doing a feature on his barbershop) but because it is the truth (come check it out yourself).  He is the owner of Drew's barbershop almost 10 years now. The 1 November 2015 it will be 10 years exactly.

 

 

The barbershop is always neat and fresh. They have a special BEN 10 kiddies corner for the young ones to make them feel like a super hero while getting a designer haircut. They always greet you with a smile make you feel at home and welcome. There is more than enough seating available. And while you waiting you can either play a game of pool, page threw his tatoo catalog (his doing tatooing part-time/after hours) or watch some sports or music videos or movies ( yes DSTV is one of the perks that his customers can enjoy).
